Groundwork

Worked on him “catching” me in the round pen to build his confidence at liberty

Horse Image

03/19/2018 05:45

Groundwork

Very jumpy and nervous today. Worked on relaxing, and backing up and staying out, not moving around or running off

Horse Image

03/02/2018 06:42

Ground work and rode

He was very reactive and flighty today. Worked on walking only, calmly, on the ground and under saddle

Horse Image

Ground work and rode

Kara did her lesson with him. She did very well. He was responsive and quiet with her on the ground. He was a little tense with her under saddle so I rode him and worked on one rein stops and keeping a looser rein

Groundwork

Chancellor had a really good day. Worked on friendly game with stick, rope, and ball. He stayed very relaxed and attentive

Horse Image

Ground work and rode

Getting much more relaxed with stick and string. He walked on his own at liberty in the round pen. He did 3 full laps relaxed and walking. Under saddle worked on riding on a looser rein. If I loosened the reins and he spend up, I did a one rein stop. He finally lowered his head and walked on a looser rein than normal

Groundwork

He finally went to the right on line with no problems. Still very rushed, but did not fight. Worked on relaxing and staying quiet. Much better session today

Groundwork

He had a rough day. He immediately started shaking when I saddled him. Very nervous about the stick and string. I sent him out at liberty and kept him going to same direction each side for 4 minutes. When he came back in, he was much more relaxed and using his brain. Lots of licking and chewing

Horse Image

02/12/2018 04:23

Groundwork

Gave me no problems today when I asked him to walk out to the right. Worked on moving his feet out and away from me instead of crowding and freezing up when he gets uncomfortable

Ground work

Chancellor has become much more relaxed with the stick and string. Today he had a lot of trouble turning to the right. He became very fear driven, was rearing and bolting to try to avoid going to the right on line in a circle. I stuck with it and used the fence as a block. I got him to turn to the right a few times, and ended it on a good note

Ground work and rode

Did not run away from stick today! Much more relaxed. Had trouble going to the right on line. Worked through it to get just a few steps at a time while he stayed relaxed. Worked on relaxing under saddle. Would walk a few circles, stop and stand until he lowered his head and relaxed. Did this until he would walk on quietly without me holding him back

Ground work and rode

Had a very good, long ground work session while saddled. He was very tense and nervous. There was a lot of commotion at the rescue today, so used it to work on relaxing and gaining confidence in moving his feet and not being so tense. Rode him around the round pen once he was relaxed. He did well. Turns, stops, and back nicely. Wants to rush and pick up speed, so had to keep contact on reins

Horse Image

02/02/2018 06:36

Groundwork

Was much more accepting of stick today. Worked on moving hindquarters, forequarter and backing. Also worked on staying relaxed and walking while lunging

Horse Image

Circle RIGHT: Challenge complete!

Complete this challenge when you can successfully send a horse out for a full lap to the right - all without moving your feet, the horse pulling on the rope, or stopping during the lap. Remember, when a horse stops, it's great practice to send them out again. You just can't complete this challenge until they stay out there for a full lap to show you they are committed to going where you pointed them.
