Ground work

Horse Image

Took a break from riding and really focused on the quality of her ground work. She had a lot of energy to start with, so I did a lot of change of direction while lunging until she settled. Worked on getting all for 4 on the big tire obstacle without her rushing across it

03/03/2020 06:00

Catching

Horse Image

I assisted her in moving away a few times with slight pressure. I held the pressure looking for two eyes, after a few minutes of pressure I still had not received two eyes. We moved to baby steps and released pressure when she stopped moving, at that point she turned to me and walked in. Once close I was able to pet her face and move away. Tabby came to me again and we put the rope around her neck. Wethen worked on lowering her poll, which she did not like, but I persisted until she dropped her poll several times. We then haltered her and moved forward.

02/19/2020 04:47

Rode

Horse Image

Very good ride today. Getting softer with backing and stopping. Maintaining a trot with no problems

02/17/2020 04:46

Rode

Horse Image

Worked on obstacles, gave some trouble about wanting to go all the way across bridge and tarp, tried to veer off. Worked it out with minimal problems

02/10/2020 04:28

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Worked on clipping her bridal path, and she has a serious problem with the clippers. Worked on desensitizing her to them and got her bridal path shortened but not clipped nicely. Rode in arena

01/29/2020 04:40

Rode

Horse Image

Worked on trotting serpentines and maintaining a trot with tighter turns and circles

01/24/2020 03:25

Rode

Horse Image

Lists of trotting circles and serpentines to the right. Worked on maintaining a trot while making sharper turns around barrels and other obstacles, as she likes to slow down when turning

01/20/2020 03:24

Rode

Horse Image

Still has trouble picking up right lead. Worked on adding trot circles and serpentines to the right to build strength on that side

01/17/2020 04:43

Rode

Horse Image

First ride back since her leg injury. W/t/l no problems, both directions. Won’t pick up right lead. Worked on flexing, backing and breaking at the poll without her shaking her head. Needs to soften up overall

12/09/2019 04:54

Ground work

Horse Image

She felt good today and ran around playfully while lunging for light exercise. No lameness

12/07/2019 06:07

Ground work

Horse Image

Walked and trotted lightly in the arena. Leg injury healing

11/20/2019 05:52

Rode

Horse Image

Did great walk/trot, wants to buck while loping. Was able to get a half circle of loping both directions after working through it

11/18/2019 04:23

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Had a longer ride today, lots of trotting, worked on softening to bit and turning while keeping forward motion

11/11/2019 05:09

Ground work

Horse Image

Worked on two line driving in the arena to soften her to the bit for stopping and backing. She threw her head a lot and was very aggravated about it, so I worked her through it until she settled and softened

10/28/2019 03:25

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

She had a runny nose so today’s session was light. Warmed up on ground with no problems. Getting better at picking up correct canter leads. Walked under saddle over obstacles, a calf from the neighbor’s pasture got loose and came into the arena. She did a small spook but nothing major. Getting better at backing lightly

10/25/2019 03:38

Ground work

Horse Image

Has some bug bites/sore spots on her right side girth area, so did not saddle her. Did very well with light ground work, stayed calm and relaxed, even picked up correct leads on first try

10/21/2019 02:54

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Much calmer today on the ground, and attentive and not “robotic”. She stayed calm and attentive, so ground work was short. Rode in arena and worked on steering in different patterns at the trot, and loped for the first time in arena. She did crow hop a little when asked to lope, but nothing serious and I worked her through it until she stopped

10/18/2019 03:14

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

It was cooler this morning and she had a lot of energy and didn’t want to walk while warming up, so we changed directions and went over obstacles until she relaxed. Rode in the arena and she did very well. Walked and trotted calmly.

10/14/2019 03:59

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Went into “autopilot mode” in the round pen. Would not approach me at liberty and would take off running again anytime I asked for something. She is very tense and shuts down and runs off instead of thinking through things. Though it was a long session, I was able to pull her out of it and get her thinking again. To cool off, I rode her lightly for the first time in the arena. Worked on going over obstacles under saddle, flexing, backing, and standing quietly. She was great in the arena under saddle

10/07/2019 03:09

Ground work

Horse Image

Loaded in trailer on first try and backed out easily. Worked on controlling speed on line. She gets very emotional when corrected, meaning I ask with light pressure and she ignores, so I increase pressure some (spank with string) and she blows up and wants to run. Worked on keeping steady pace and getting her to understand that if she listens to the light pressure when asked, pressure will not increase

10/04/2019 04:18

Ground work

Horse Image

Warmed up ground work with debbie for her lesson. Rode in round pen, loped on both sides easily with no problems

09/30/2019 03:50

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Was very nervous in arena and took a while to settle down. She was very high headed and snorty while lunging. Once she settled down I work on FQ yields as she still is very pushy and dull with them. Did light riding in the round pen as she was very tired

09/27/2019 04:52

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Used her for Debbie’s ground work lesson. Worked on picking up correcting lead at canter while lunging. Rode in round pen. Did well w/t

09/25/2019 03:57

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Did very well today. Started off with liberty in the round pen. Got her to stop when asked for the first time, and followed me with some encouragement. Did very well riding. Getting much softer in the bit. Was much easier to back up from last session, much more willing to trot and stay trotting

09/23/2019 02:48

Rode

Horse Image

Introduced a bit. She seems to have been ridden with one before. Put 4th ride on her with bit. Did well other than with backing. Trotted for the first time

09/20/2019 02:47

Rode

Horse Image

Used her for a lesson, then rode her for the third time in rope halter. Did well walking, and stopping

09/11/2019 04:01

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Did well on the ground today. Rode in round pen with Dani’s help then by ourselves. She went around calmly at a walk in just a rope halter with no problems

09/09/2019 03:43

Ground work and rode

Horse Image

Did much better changing directions on line in the arena today. HQ and FQ yields were decent. Did well two line driving. Mounted in round pen and Dani sent her out on line, for several minutes in both directions and she did well

09/08/2019 02:55

Ground work

Horse Image

Ground work with Tabby on Friday September 6, 2019 with saddle. Started with backing up with intention and steady pressure. Needs to be more responsive to backing up with steady pressure. HQ and FQ yields on both right and left sides. Did ok with these on left side. Was unresponsive to the pressure applied on right side - needs significant work on right side. Lunged in a circle both left and right. She increased her speed and was visibly more uncomfortable circling to the right but eventually did slow down. Did well with the obstacles in the arena.

08/26/2019 03:51

Ground work

Horse Image

Saddled in cross ties. She seemed to regress some over the weekend, and she drug me around the arena when I tried to get her to change directions while circling. I took her in the round pen and sent her around the patience pole until she started giving to pressure better. I then took her back into the arena and worked on two line driving. She needs to be much softer in the halter

08/23/2019 03:53

Ground work

Horse Image

Saddled and worked in the arena. She was much softer and responsive today. Worked on tracking circles, which took a while to get down and she was very unsure and rushy. Worked on softening to the halter

08/21/2019 03:52

Ground work evaluation

Horse Image

My first session with her I chose to do in the round pen. She saddled easily, but pulled a lot while lunging, especially to the right. I sent her around the patience pole until she softened and stopped pulling. She tends to shut down and zone out and goes “autopilot”
