Lead star

Horse Image

Today Star and I worked on leading. She is a very pushy mare and likes to be on top of the handler. She moved her feet a lot when i asked her to give me my personal space and maintain that distance away from me. I kept moving the end of my rope until she stopped, once she stopped we were able to walk around and both of us were at a comfortable distance.

Sent star through a gate

Horse Image

Today I worked on sending star through a gate. Before we got to the gate i just worked on sending star out and around me. She liked to put her shoulder into me so I worked on making her keep her distance when being sent out and around. I did NOT back up and let her push onto me. She picked it up very quickly and then when we were doing well with that i asked her to go through a gate. she did so very calmly and quietly. It was a great lesson. I was very proud of Star.

Groomed Star

Horse Image

Star came to us with her herd. She was very protective and her first reaction was to pin her ears and attempt to bite if you went to pet her near her head. With a lot of one on one time and daily interaction her attitude has completely changed. She will approach you in the pastures and is curious of humans. She can be a little pushy but we will work on teaching her to give us more personal space. She allows you to groom her almost her whole body and hasn\\\'t offered to bite or pin her ears at a person in a long time. She is still a little timid when you get to her HQ and we are also still working on picking up her feet.
