Third ride in the Schleese saddle. Several issues 1. Hip pain after about 45 minutes 2. Seat too small and makes me feel tipped forward 3. Fenders too short and top of boot get stuck on bottom of hte fender 4. Pommel too small 5. Horn too small 6. Latigo keeper in wrong place, hits my knee 7. Can feel where the fender ends and the strap begins on the inside of both thighs, pulling the fender up helps but then causes the #3 issue.

Began to be uncomfortable in the saddle after about an hour with bilateral hip and inner thigh area pain. Trooper seemed to like it though.

Back a little, move HQ then FQ, then straighten and continue back Bridge, cause some worry at first, but then he was able to go with confidence Gaits need more definition between walk and extended walk Reining pattern, SIT UP AND BACK, HEAD UP! Turns, direct rein in a circke with nose over the foot and hand at the hip. Slowly draw back indirect rein, walk out when you feel the turn Hold the cow. Approach and then stop when cow moves, then go when cow goes, keep cow between my knee and Trooper\\\'s should (like on the flag). Stay up with the cow and slightly ahead to turn.

My boy is back. Started in the RP on line with friendly, then moved FQ and HQ. Then circle at walk and trot with slack in line in both directions. He stayed relaxed and connected the entire time. Then to the big warmup arena. Started with a couple laps on a loose reind in both directions. He blew out quickly. Then gaited both directions and asked for canter at the corners. The right lead was a little hard to get soe we did a turn back and he got it right away. Stopped to chat with friends for a bit, then took a few spins around the roping arena. Best session yet.

Riding at Buckeye

Day 11 at Buckeye. Started with a short RP session where he was connected from the beginning. Then rode more of the property today while there was lots of activity going on with the big barrel race. Walked by the pasture with the cows where he was a little reluctant, but that didnt last long. He was solid today.

Horse Image

Day 8 at Buckeye. Saddled in the pen and then went to the RP. Really nice session relaxed and connected. Then back to the pen for the bridle. Mounted up and walked the perimeter around the RP areas. His buddy called as we left and Trooper got a little worried but calmed down as we headed back. Did another lap stopped to graze away from the barn. He was way more relaxed on the return trip so we quit there.

Horse Image

Liberty and yields

Day 6 at Buckeye. Much better session in the RP. Started with the 5 blocks of liberty. Good beginning, then he left. Got him back and tried to back him up without sending. Had to go back on line. Then got some nice transitions and a couple COD, so ended the session.

Horse Image

12/24/2019 09:52

Round pen session

Day 5 at Buckeye. Went to the RP intending to start with the 5 blocks of liberty. He started off pretty well but then soon became disconnected and more worried about the other horses. Could not get him to stay connected and he became more emotional. Changed the game to touch it with his nose and then his foot on line. That helped him get his brain back so we went back to liberty. Ended with two laps walk trot transitions each was when he finally hooked on.

Horse Image

12/23/2019 05:51

Trail ride

Trail to reservoir with Geri. Trooper was pretty disconnected for the majority of the ride and much more forward then usual. On the way back we did try some loping uphill around a stand of trees. He bucked pretty hard going uphill the first time so on the second try we just gaited. On the third try we managed to gait the pattern and had a few strides of canter at the end without emotion. Geri advised that when he bucks or kicks out to stop and back him up right then. Also worked on asking for nose in first before going into the backup.
