Groundwork/ Ride

Lunged both directions w,t,c. She seemed stiff so we stretched neck/poll and shoulders. Had my wade saddle which I had used for the Jim Hicks riding clinic. I\\\'m discovering she seems to have less saddle issues with a lighter (dressage) saddle. Our current dressage saddle also has a wide gullet in it where as my western saddles are semi-QH bars and have more narrow gullets. Today I only had my wade to use so we used that. We worked through saddle issues being shown by tension, a wide eye and a little bit of humping up. We walked forward and went through our steps to gain confidence and being comfortable with the saddle. Slowly and preventatively (walking, yielding HQ with crossing over in the back end, driving should off at the wall and then stretching out into a walk, then extended trot and then canter both directions. looking for acceptance and relaxing before transitioning into faster gaits) Had a short ride working on bending first. Then riding with more disciplined up and down transitions, softening to the bit at a stand still and at a trot, serpentines w/ a loose rein then to collected circles. ended with a relaxing walk around changing directions with no reins just going off leg and seat cues.

Groundwork/Ride

Similar things to yesterday. Had a better day with the saddle. walk/trot/ with circles and changing direction on a loose rein (off of seat and leg), Half circle and serpentine exercises with asking for collection. W/T/C both directions with large figure eights and simple changes.

Groundwork/ Ride

Minimal groundwork but worked on saddle issue. Backing with more pressure when she moves and being really careful to release pressure when she tried to stand. Tightening and loosening cinch with same idea. Seemed to go smoother today. Beautiful ride, worked on speed control and transitions through walk, trot, canter. Worked on leg yields, lateral bending to HQ yield to lateral bend again. Softening to the bit. Pinwheel exercise. Picking up canter from less steps in the trot. Focal exercises with going diagonally across the arena and holding straight lines through transitions. Backing. Relaxed walking in half circles and off of just seat and leg changing direction and bend.

Light groundwork, Ride W,T,C

Little bit of cavesson type lunging for warm up then saddled and rode. Still moving while saddling, some days barely at all and somedays quite a bit. Today was somewhere in between. Ride was beautiful. Soft and easy. Did some work speeding up and slowing down walk and trot. Serpentines at the walk. Backing straight. Beautiful canter both directions and breaking down to trot in between diagonally across the arena then picking canter back up. She picks up her leads naturally very well.

***Horse Update***

***Horse Update*** PERSONALITY: Sweet sensitve mare that likes people. Derives confidence from handler. Does not rely on other horses for comfort. CURRENT SKILLS: Latte walk trot canter with smooths transistions. She is light and fluid in aids and movement. Athletic with a lot of potential for arena work, cow work, trail, or working equitation. Beautiful self carriage. She can turn on the hindqauters, forehand, side pass and back up. Rides off your seat. She loads, travels, unloads well. She ties and bathes. Good with all four feet and has front shoes on. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: Latte needs to gain confidence with horses riding up behind her and wit ropes around her hind end. She needs work to stay focused so she doesnt get nervous on trail. TACK/RIDDEN IN: Saffle bit and western saddles with back cinch TYPE OF RIDER:Latte needs an soft handed confident rider that is excited to progess her to her full potential. She is a barn favorite and the lighter and more consistantly she gets worked the more she comes mentally and physically though and progesses.

***Horse Update***

***Horse Update*** Latte is a super sesitive horse. She is now moving through all her transistions well and softly. Latte needs a little longer warm up somedays whether on the ground or in the saddle to build her confidence and help her relax. She has had an issue saddling in the past and although it comes up less we are looking for a more experienced horse person for her. Also we are looking for someone who is quiet in the horsemanship and willing to put in the work to build her confidence. She loads, travels, and unloads well. She has front shoes on and is good with all of her feet. She has been out on a trail ride and we are hoping to get her out more as spring goes on. She is so soft and beautifully sensitive when you put the work in. She is a real plesure to ride.

Groundwork Ride W/T

Groundwork/lunge line/accession type work. Lots going on today with volunteers/Big bonfire and tractors going at neighbors. She was a little better for getting saddle on but a little tight and worried especially on right side once it was on. Kept her focused through that with rolling HQ and lunging. Once she blew out going both directions got on and had a pretty good ride. She felt a little tight and worried from the tractor next door but stayed with me and relaxed Ed into it.

Cavassan work

Due to some stiffness in her hind end and a contusion on her side, Latte had a day off from riding. I worked her in the cavassan to losen up her back and hind end and stretch her out. Then worked with the rope under her tail and around her hind end.

Horse Image

04/10/2018 04:36

Groundwork and ride

Latte was pretty tight coming into work today so working her to relax and be better about the saddling process took some time. She looks off in her right hind so lots of slower stretching work. Rode her to relaxation and was aware of her back right. She has been rolling in and out of the canter and taking on a lot more work so today was lighter.

Groundwork/ Ride

Lunged both directions w,t,c for warm up. She seemed stiff so we stretched neck/poll and shoulders. Had my wade which I used at the clinic. She definitely prefers the dressage saddle, most of her saddling issues are almost non-existent with a lighter saddle and a wider gullet (she needs a full qh bars at least.) I used my wade and had to work through saddling issues slowly and preventativly (walking/yielding HQ/driving shoulder off at wall and then w,t,c both directions making sure to extend the trot first). Short ride working on bending, up and down transitions, softening to the bit, serpentines w/loose rein and collected circles.
