Trailer loading

Ground drove her into a straight load trailer and made her back out, as she likes to turn around. It took several tries but she did get it down

Horse Image

09/23/2019 02:42

Trail ride

Took Lilly out trail riding. She did very well, no spooking and went through water fine

Horse Image

09/11/2019 03:58

Rode

Went straight into riding today and rode for longer than usual to test her patience. She did buck one time after she avoided the ground poles at a trot and I made her circle back around and follow through. Other than that did well

Horse Image

09/09/2019 03:42

Rode

Rode in arena and worked on forequarter yields, which she is very dull to. Did a lot of trotting, is improving a lot on maintaining gait and not slowing down and stopping for longer periods

Horse Image

08/07/2019 03:41

Harnessed

We put the harness on her for the first time and drove her around the arena at a walk with no problems

Horse Image

08/05/2019 04:11

Ground work

Worked on ground driving with a bit. Went over all obstacles, did very well

Horse Image

07/31/2019 03:15

Rode

Did very well riding today. HQ yields were much better. Backed the L fairly easily. Went through all the obstacles and even kept going at a trot over the half barrels. Drug tarp while riding

Rode

Worked on HQ yields and backing the L, one rein stops and walk/trot transitions.

Horse Image

07/26/2019 02:16

Rode

Rode in the arena and worked on main ting fair while turning. Did lots of figure 8s around obstacles

Horse Image

07/24/2019 03:49

Rode

Rode in the arena. Worked on staying in a trot when turning, and she thinks turning means she gets to slow down. It took a while, but she started to understand towards the end of the session

Horse Image

07/15/2019 02:43

Rode

I was able to get her to lope on my own to the left. She would not move going to the right, so I made her work really hard to the left, then had her walk down to the right

Horse Image

07/12/2019 02:40

Rode

It was very difficult to get her to lope under saddle, but Dani helped me in the round pen using a stick and string, and we got her to do a few strides. She went through all the obstacles fine

Horse Image

07/10/2019 03:46

Rode

Did light ground work to warm up, and rode her in the arena. She tried to run away as soon as I got on, but was easy to stop. She did not want to keep walking, I had to pop her with the rope constantly, and she would kick at me when I touched her with my spurs. I was able to work on one rein stop at walk and trot, and she did well with that

Rode

Worked on walking on the rail in a circle. She does not want to keep her nose bent to the inside. She did better than the last ride, but still has a long way to go

Horse Image

04/29/2019 04:18

Rode

Tara Carter donated a draft saddle, so I was finally able to ride her with a saddle. She was very defiant and resistant to anything I asked her. She did not move off of my leg, even with spurs. She tried to run me into the patience pole, and kicked out at my leg once when I touched her with my spur. I finally got her to go on the rail at a walk without protesting, so I ended it there

Horse Image

04/24/2019 03:18

Trailer loading

Worked on trailer loading in the big trailer with single door open. Did better going in, but would not back out. She kept turning around inside the trailer. I blocked her nose and pushed her hip to keep her straight while encouraging her to back up. She would not step back, and eventually froze and would not move at all. After over 2 hours, I was finally able to get her to turn around and walk out. I walked her straight to the patience pole and left her tied, as once she got off the trailer she started calling to Molly

Horse Image

04/22/2019 04:01

Taped for challenges

Took videos for trailer loading and farrier prep. Farrier prep went well, but she did not want to load into the big trailer with one door open. Took about 20 mins but she walked on and off calmly, did not pull away from me

Horse Image

04/17/2019 02:18

Riding

Worked on vertical and lateral flexion from the saddle. Did very well, overall not too pushy or dull to the bit

Horse Image

04/08/2019 02:14

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Started off in the round pen to let her get out some of her energy. Once she settled down, I took her in the arena and worked on the obstacles. She has no problems other than not wanting to back between the cones straight, so we worked on that until we got it. Introduced her to trailer loading for this week’s challenge. Lilly has a history of being tough to trailer load, so I started off slow, with the door closed, and just asked her to walked up and touch it with her nose, then walked her away. I did this several times until she licked and chewed. Then I put the ramp down and just suggested with a finger point that she walk in she walked all the way in on the second try, so I ended our session there. Overall very good day

Horse Image

04/05/2019 03:56

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Videoed for this week’s challenge- tying prep. We filmed working on the belly rope, rolling HQ while tied, as flagging while on the other side of the panel. She did very well

Horse Image

04/03/2019 03:55

Tying

She became very buddy sour in the cross ties when her buddy Molly was walked out of the barn without her. She reared, pawed, and set back a lot, so she stayed tied for several hours until she calmed down.

Horse Image

04/01/2019 03:32

Ground work

Warmed up at liberty in round pen, did not kick out or show aggression. Worked on HQ and FQ yields and backing. Did very well. Introduced flag while tied with no problems

Horse Image

03/29/2019 03:30

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Videoed this week’s challenge- accepting the flag. Did light ground work after her very hard session yesterday

Horse Image

03/28/2019 03:26

Ground work

Did light warm up in round pen and took her out to the arena to work on obstacles. She kicked at me and then snatched away from me in the arena, and ran back to the barn. We went back in the round pen and worked hard at liberty, lots of changing directions. I put her halter back on and worked on sending around the patience pole, and she still pulled away from me several times. I worked her in the round pen with her lead rope dragging so that when she stepped on it, she had to give to the pressure and stop. With enough work, she finally stopped pulling away from me. I took her back out in the arena and lunged, just at a walk, and worked on keeping her nose turned into me while on the circle, and ended on a good note

Horse Image

03/27/2019 02:58

Obstacles

Started off in the round pen to take the edge off. She did well so I ended that quickly. Worked on liberty HQ yields. Played on the obstacles. She did very well. I would like for her to back through the cones straighter, so I will keep working on that. She jumped over the barrels laying down easily. She lunged nicely with no defiance. She had a good day

Horse Image

03/22/2019 03:53

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Warmed up in round pen, then took videos for this week’s challenge, sending over obstacles. She did well, and did not protest much

Horse Image

03/18/2019 03:45

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Worked on sending over obstacles. She had no problem with the obstacles but was aggressive about being sent out. She was head shaking, kicking out, bucking and rearing. I put her in the round pen and did lots of changing direction until she settled down. I took her back out to work on obstacles and she went over several with no problems

Horse Image

03/15/2019 03:41

Clipped bridle path

Videoed for this week’s catching challenge with no problems. Finally was able to clip her bridle path after about 45 minutes

Horse Image

03/11/2019 03:16

Practiced for this weeks challenge

Video taped for the first challenge. Worked in round pen afterwards. Trotting behind me was much easier today. She was resistant to approach me, it took about 15 minutes before she would come up to me on her own.

Horse Image

03/06/2019 05:00

Practiced for this weekâ??s challenge

HQ and FQ yields are pretty good. Focused today on backing with intention, and trotting while leading. Getting her to trot was a challenge as she is very lazy and dull to the stick and string. I ended it on a good note when she finally would trot without having to make contact with the string. Was very impatient on cross ties, so spent about 45 minutes tied

Horse Image

03/04/2019 06:08

Practiced for this week’s challenge

HQ and FQ yields, backing, leading. Not horrible, but very lazy. Needs to soften up more. Conditioned in round pen- 6 mins trotting each direction. Stood tied on patience pole for 2 hours, pawed a lot but I serious problems

Horse Image

HQ Yields RIGHT – Steady Pressure: Challenge complete!

Complete this challenge when the horse assigned to this purpose can successfully yield their Hindquarters a full 360 degree rotation to the right with steady pressure. Ideally, the steady pressure does not require more than 4oz of strength (enough on the hair or skin, but not the muscle or bone)

Horse Image

03/03/2019 06:08

Finale: Challenge complete!

Complete this challenge when you can smoothly transitions from a full HQ Yield to a full FQ Yield, Backing 10 Steps and then trotting off for 20 steps. Ideally, this is all done with lightness.

Horse Image

02/18/2019 03:26

Ground work

Desensitized to slapping string on ground. She was antsy and anticipating that it meant move. Conditioned 7 minutes each direction trotting in round pen. Worked on forequarter yields, and keeping nose out of my space while leading. Was impatient on cross ties after hosing off, so she stood tied until she was quiet.

Horse Image

02/11/2019 03:40

Ground work

Desensitized more to clippers. She let me place them on her neck and behind her ears while turned on. Exercised for 6 minutes each direction at a trot. Started to ground drive. She seemed like she has not done it before, she kept trying to turn around to look at me. Was able to flex her to both sides, back up, and walk forward a few steps at a time

Horse Image

02/08/2019 03:39

Ground work

HQ and FQ yields, backing with soft feel on lead rope. Trotted 6 mins each direction in round pen for conditioning. Did not stop as often, not as distracted
