Bond

Horse Image

Continued bonding. Onyx picked up where she left off. Whiskers now turned to nose; little jabs in my hand. Big progress!

Bond

Horse Image

Continued bonding focus in multiple short sessions. Onyx responded by touching her whiskers to tips of my hand. I touched her nose on one occasion: it was too much. Took the rest of the time to reconnect. Gotta keep this on Onyx terms.

Bond

Horse Image

In paddock. Hung out with Onyx & Strawberry. Onyx responds to her name. She\\\'ll stop. Give attention. Then reached out. She touched my hand twice.

Reach out

Horse Image

Short session in holding pen. Continuing to reach out to her from the side; not the front. She touched hand 4 times in 3 min time frame.

Approach/Hang out

Horse Image

Hung out with her in paddock with Strawberry as Onyx’s trust builder. This is the 1st time Onyx reached her nose out and touched my hand. Had a whisker occurrence as well. Later in short sessions in holding pen, Onyx responded to her name and moved around. Instead of facing me she would “give” (?) her on-side. Then turned her head to my outreached hand—6” away. I have a hunch that working with her from the side rather than front is less threatening for her. Licks & chews.

Working on approach & acceptance. Moved Onyx around. Retreated when she turned towards me. She acknowledges an outreached hand 3 feet away.

Introduction/Approach

Horse Image

2 sessions. Introduction to each other. Faced me many times. Lick. Next session she faced me in closer proximity. Held out hand. She definitely has interest.
