Exercise and handle

While trying to approach Zero, Utah was more willing. Exercised Utah in the round pen. Scratched his left side all over. Lifted left front leg. He did not want me on his right side.

Halter Training

Worked with Utah today on ground work and haltering. Tried to get a rope halter on today but wasn\\\'t ready for this. Mainly worked on \\\"introducing\\\" today. Different people and places on the ranch. Walked around everywhere. Utah was pretty playful today and wanted to be close to me as we walked around. New people he was hesitant with but he was interested in everyone that he met. Kendra didn\\\'t bring Decoy today so I did not push the haltering today when he didn\\\'t appear to be interested. I was able to move it up on his nose but really didn\\\'t want it on his neck today.

Farrier

Utah received 8-10 week reoccurring Farrier care. Utah only trusts certain people and currently is easier to trim when those people are here to help him through that. I tried to hand him off to a volunteer so I could go catch another horse and he had a very hard time with that and I needed to come back so he would calm down. I will be continuing to work on this and will be hopefully introducing him to more people so he can start to trust more people.

Training

Utah and I worked on ground work today. After catching, haltering, and lounging. We groomed with picking up all 4 hooves and used spray for mane and tail. Had a harder time getting halter on and off today. After ground work Kendra ponied Utah to Decoy to work on desensitization while being above him. Kendra also introduced using the carrot stick also today while sitting on decoy. Kendra and I are having a hard time determining if Utah\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s head shyness is physical or emotional at this point. When he is being ponied he doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t have a problem with the pressure that is put on the halter but when your touching him on his head he will shake his head a lot. His poll and ears are his most problem areas and we continue to work on touching his neck and withers. When taking off the halter he became very agitated and we needed to take a break for about 15 mins before successfully getting the halter off.

Halter training

Today Kendra and I worked on ground work with Utah. Was able to halter with nylon halter and groom. Kendra ponied Utah with Decoy so she could be above Utah and touch him. This will help him with being above his poll. Still working on touching him all over his head and working on desensitizing him around his withers as well. After ground work completed we took a walk around WNCR. Utah has great ground manners and wants to please as much as possible.
