INTRODUCTION

I was born in Broward County Florida and have lived here my entire life. I worked in the financial industry for 20 years. My grandmother formed the first EIA positive Ranch in 1972. In 1987 the land we were located on was sold and F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse Rescue was formed. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is a non profit 501 (C)3 organization. (59-2825751) F.R.I.E.N.D.S. means the Florida Research Institute for Equine Nurturing, Development & Safety, Inc. This year is F.R.I.E.N.D.S. 31st year of saving horses. I have a very strong passion for horses and wouldn't ask anyone to do anything I haven't done myself. I believe education empowers people and if you do not push yourself to gain knowledge, you will never move forward. Do what you love and love what you do, and if you do that, you will always be happy. I have given a lot up over the years to care for the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. herd but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I have been married to Bobby Barwick for 21 years and I have a 15 year old son. While I cannot physically be with the horses all the time, they are always in my heart and mind. This program is going to be perfect for anyone who truly wants to volunteer and have "hands on" experiences with the horses at F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I have taken every class that New Horizons Equine Center has to offer. I am a certified Equine Science Instructor. I am also a member of the Broward County Large Animal Disaster Committee and I have been Certified in LARO Training by Code 3. I have taken classes and been certified by various breed associations such as the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Paint Horse Association, the Appaloosa Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Association. I have also been certified in; Horse Safety, Horse Psychology & Behavior, Equine Terminology, Tack & Care, Confirmation, Nutrition, Equine Health Care, Show Grooming, Ownership Considerations, Equine First Aid, Breeding & Reproductive Management, Stable Management, Trailering & Transporting Horse Safety, Understanding Horse Behavior, Horse Training, Showing and Preparations and careers in the horse industry. I have also been trained at both the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty Animals (ASPCA) clinics/conventions. I have also taken various online classes offered by the ASPCA for Equine Rescues. However, I would say that even though I have taken all of these courses, the BEST way to learn is through experience. I have had horses since I was a child but as a adult, I have 35 years of experience under my belt.
